“On Orange” is taking up residence at 108 W. Orange Street, Lancaster PA. ” Not a complete revolution, just a new twist on an old favorite.”
Lancaster, PA the oldest inland city in the United States of America, snuggled along the north and west by the mighty Susquehanna River, was originally settled in 1718.
This historical building , dating back to the 1850’s, has been home to a number of restaurants over the years.
Most recently “Wish You Were Here” has developed a loyal following. Wish You
Were Here opened in 1990 under the direction of Elizabeth Maerz who introduced Lancaster to Swedish Pancakes and other favorites during her successful run.
Robin Murphy and Joe Clark took over ownership in September of 2001 and continued the success of Wish You Were Here. They added their own stamp with vegan specialties and homemade breads. Guests enjoyed traditional French Omelet’s and Swedes surrounded by original art.
Prior to Wish You Were Here 108 West was owned by Jack & Corky Hartman from 1983 to 1990 who operated a gourmet take out shop called Sous Chef. Sous Chef became The Soup Kitchen under the direction of Ed Diller and Steve Smith.
During the Late 70’s and early 80’s The Orange Street Tea Shop was located at 108 West and is remembered fondly as a place to enjoy a cup of tea in front of the large fireplace downstairs. The Tea Shop was the dream of JoAnn Miles and Rob Sellers.
There is rumor of an ice cream parlor prior to the Tea House. If anyone has any information on this or other uses of this building please e mail Melissa Watro at mwatro@comcast.net

On Orange is MAGNIFICENT ! The food is amazing, the service is impeccable, and the atmoshphere is inviting and cozy. The very second you enter the restaurant, you will immediately feel transported into a completely unique environment. It’s really a deceptively charming place. So much care and attention is put forth; even the hand-made seats at the breakfast counter will catch your eye. The eclectic menu, and the warm enthusiasm of the owner will absolutley overwhelm you to the point where you cannot wait to come back again !!!
